Words are just words... or are they?

I am often found in my room reading about romance and teenage troubles. I read all the pages from beginning to end and go to the next. I am sure your thinking I am nuts. Perhaps I am... or maybe I'm not. I'll let you decide. Maybe we are more alike then you thought.

When picking up a book how often do you read it front page to back cover? Usually I have picked up a book by my favourite author Lurlene McDaniel or I am reading one of the many, many, Harlequin romance novels out there.

I really admire the work that they do before we get to see and read the final product. In fact, I can be so excited that I often find myself skimming the pages and moving onto the juicy parts.

I plead guilty. I plead guilty for not reading every single word on every page so I understand the story. It's not that the storyline is boring or that I don't care I just want the good stuff. I care about the dog staying at home or that the newspaper was thrown on the floor. After all we are reading about characters. Yay for characters!

With all this being guilty of not reading every word on every page of a book. I spoil myself with music. I listen to it so much I know when the bridge or chorus is coming up. I've memorized the melody and can sing along- even without the song playing.

I even understand the message and the power that the singer is performing. The lyrics in the song can be as sad and as happy as a book. I listen to over and over again. I read the book over again.

So I guess my thought provoking question is - Are words just words? Or do they carry meaning and thought?

Writing Schedule and Something I Forgot!

I have put myself on a very strict, but fun weekly writing regimen.

Motivational Monday's is all about motivation and inspiration.

Tip Tuesday's is one tip I will share weekly.

Wonderful Women Wednesday's is sharing the various inspirational women who help shape our world.

Thrifty Thursday's is sharing a craft of some sort using thrifty items.

Free Friday's is freestyle writing. I can write anything I want as long as it's something.

I also want to apologize for not doing this sooner, but I was passed on an award from Meika! I want to share it with y'all!

Thank you!!

Motivational Monday's -It's All About You!

Every moment there is something to strive for. To reach further beyond your potential. There is hope and fulfillment for a better you. You are the reason to keep going and owning what you have to offer.

You are unique and you share a talent that shines for you. Don't close the door or bridge the gap. Learn something new everyday. Make it your goal and your responsibility. Take a leap forward into who you want to become. Think of this as your ticket for being famous.

What do you want to be known for?

This is the question for the week you should answer.

Come back every Monday for more motivation each week!

Getting in Touch With Your Character

So I have been working on creating the foundation of my new writing project. I am trying to develop my location, the chapter plots and most importantly, the characters. It's still a work in progress, but it's coming along slowly. I know it's going to take me awhile to get down to the nitty gritty's and make it smooth. But its okay. It takes time to get in touch with your characters and your story.

I am trying to "interview" my main female character. I have thought a lot about her lately. I think she's going to be a reincarnation of how I'd like to see myself. It's kind of crazy, I think of some out of body experiences for her to happen and then I am totally thinking.. no way...she won't do that.

I guess it boils down to, what should I really know about my main character and how much information should I have of her available to aid in writing her parts. I know that Google is my best friend and so Google has been, but what advice do you offer me?

What website or resource do you recommend for that tell all point?

Scribbles!

The Right to Write by Julia Cameron

Writing has always been a lot of fun for me and filled a void when needed. During the past few years my writing has a fallen apart and I have suffered from the dreaded ( and most common!) writer's block.

In the past I have written lots of cheesy poetry and oh my gosh I can't believe I wrote that cheesy lyrics. Indeed my writing tastes and styles have slightly changed, but my love and desire to continue to write is still a daunting task I am wishing to achieve.

I asked my good friend, who is also an aspiring writer who stumbles upon the same issues to give me some advice. Of course, it is very important to read to know what you like and to educate yourself. So she suggested a nice selection of good books on writing including this one " The Right to Write" by Julia Cameron.

I ran out and picked up the book (along with another!!) to start my writing-maction ( Yes, I am aware it's not a real word!). I sat in Starbucks and read the first chapter. I even did the exercise as well. If your not already familiar with this book, the first chapter had discussed the beginning and initiation to write. So the exercise had asked for you write how you were feeling on three sheets of paper. So I wrote and I wrote. It was really helpful and therapeutic.

Since reading and doing the exercise from the first chapter, I have read one or two more and shamefully ignored the exercises. But I do remember to take the book to work with me daily.

The pen shall write on....
