In the past I have written lots of cheesy poetry and oh my gosh I can't believe I wrote that cheesy lyrics. Indeed my writing tastes and styles have slightly changed, but my love and desire to continue to write is still a daunting task I am wishing to achieve.
I asked my good friend, who is also an aspiring writer who stumbles upon the same issues to give me some advice. Of course, it is very important to read to know what you like and to educate yourself. So she suggested a nice selection of good books on writing including this one " The Right to Write" by Julia Cameron.
I ran out and picked up the book (along with another!!) to start my writing-maction ( Yes, I am aware it's not a real word!). I sat in Starbucks and read the first chapter. I even did the exercise as well. If your not already familiar with this book, the first chapter had discussed the beginning and initiation to write. So the exercise had asked for you write how you were feeling on three sheets of paper. So I wrote and I wrote. It was really helpful and therapeutic.
Since reading and doing the exercise from the first chapter, I have read one or two more and shamefully ignored the exercises. But I do remember to take the book to work with me daily.
The pen shall write on....
